EDIT: Please see the link above in the menu bar for the Facebook Encampment Page, please join in order to interact! - Thanks!! 1Lt Curtis, PAO Hello Everyone, I type this as my last message before I make the trek North with two other CAP vehicles tomorrow morning full of cadets, both staff and basic. I want to assure you that we are going to do everything in our power in the Public Affairs Department this year to make this the most 'Interactive' encampment experience ever! Not only will we be publishing the newsletter daily to this website, but we will be doing something new this year, and that is publishing small bits of information and photos through Facebook. If you are not already a member of Facebook, you'll want to be. Once you you get signed up, search for "Great Lake Region - North & MIWG Encampment". Once you become a 'Fan', you'll be able to get updates in your Facebook 'News Feed'... and remember, Facebook is interactive, so feel free to ask questions and post comments. Parents, if you want make a 'shout out' to your cadet, let us know, and we'll publish it in the daily newsletter! For those parents that are new to encampment and have a 'Basic' cadet attending this year; if you can make it up on Saturday, July 25th for graduation and Pass In Review, please try to do so, not only is it a site to behold, but your cadet will be so happy to see you, they'll surely be besides themselves with joy! Here's to a wonderful encampment 2009! Best Regards, Mark L. Curtis, 1st Lt, CAP Director, Public Affairs Great Lakes Region North - Michigan Wing Summer Encampment 2009

****For Widest Distribution******* All, It is not too late to be a part of the 2009 GLR-N Summer Encampment. If you have not yet attended your basic encampment, now it is a great time to attend, as it is a requirement to apply for National Cadet Special Activities and Civil Air Patrol Scholarships and it is also a requirement for the Mitchell Award! Openings are also still open for Region Cadet Leadership School (a requirement for completion of Phase 4 of the cadet program) and for cadets to work in Air Operations. (Both require previous encampment attendance, CLS requires minimum grade of c/Ssgt or a waiver from the school director.) If you haven’t already mailed in your application at this point, please do not send it by mail. Instead, please hand-carry your application packet and payment to encampment with you. However, we need you to email the following information to the encampment admin officer: · Name · Grade · Date of Birth · Gender · CAPID · Last four digits of social security number · Address · Telephone number · Adult t-shirt size · Emergency contact information · Program attending This will give us enough info to get you into the database. The encampment admin officer is Lt Matt Florian, and his email address is

. Again, if you haven’t mailed in your application and payment yet, please do not do so. Simply hand carry it to encampment. Regards,

The staff of the Great Lakes Region (North) Summer Encampment is pleased to announce that Maj Gen Amy S. Courter, CAP National Commander, has confirmed that she will be present at our Encampment to serve as the Reviewing Officer of our closing Pass-in-review ceremony. Additionally, Gen Courter will present the Graduation address to our cadets and senior members. Her presence will be certain to bring an extra-special closing to the week, and she is looking forward to seeing our cadets in action!
Maj Gen Courter has served as the National Commander of Civil Air Patrol since August of 2008. Previously she has served as Interim National Commander, and National Vice Commander. Let's give it our all to show our National Commander the best of the tradition of excellence that we share at Alpena! |

Hi Everyone, Sorry for the delay in getting 'The Encampment Store' up and running. I believe there's an adage that says something like 'Good things take time...and this is a real good thing!', or something like that, but I digress. :-) So, without further ado, please click the link in the top menu entitled, 'ENCAMPMENT STORE - PAY ONLINE'. This will take you to 'The Encampment Store' which is embedded on this website. If anyone has a problem viewing the web store this way, feel free to click the following link to go directly to the store, http://miwgencampmentstore.weebly.com I hope many of you find this functionality useful, if you do, please let me or someone else on encampment command staff know! Thank you. Best Regards, Mark L. Curtis, 1st Lt, CAP Webmaster & Photo/Videographer 2009 GLR-N/Michigan Wing Encampment
