Thanks for your interest in the 2008 Great Lakes Region-Michigan Encampment.
Greetings Visitors! This site has been updated to reflect information in regards to the 2008 Great Lakes Region - Michigan Summer Encampment. A new website will be designed as a replacement to this site, but we will post as much new information as we can about the 2008 encampment as possible before hand to keep you informed. 10 February 2008 MEMORANDUM FOR ALL INTERESTED CADETS
FROM: Commandant of Cadets
SUBJECT: Announcement of Cadet Staff Application Process
and Cadet Staff Selection
1. The Great Lakes Region (MI) Encampment is now accepting
applications for the following staff positions:
Squadron Commander (3) Squadron Deputy Commander (3) Squadron Executive Officer (3) Flight Commander (7) Male, (2) Female Flight Sgt. (7) Male, (2) Female
All staff positions are open to any CAP cadet in good standing
(including cadets outside of the Great Lakes Region) who has attended basic
encampment, and any listed prerequisite experience.
Squadron Commander applicants must have either past experience on
encampment staff in a flight or squadron staff capacity, or attendance at a
Region CLS. Applicants must also list three goals you would set for your
squadron and write a paragraph or two explaining how you would achieve these
goals.
Applicants for Squadron Deputy Commander and Executive Officer are
strongly encouraged to have past encampment staff or CLS experience.
2. Interested applicants should prepare and submit the
following do*****entation to the Commandant of Cadets no later than 8 March
2008. Applications and do*****ents may be emailed or sent via U.S. mail to
the listed address.

- All sections completed.
- All signatures including "SQUADRON
CERTIFICATION."
- Include a recent photo. (In CAP uniform if possible)
- Page 2/4 is not necessary for this activity.
CAP RESUME
To include activities attended, leadership positions held, and
awards presented at all echelons.
LETTER OF INTENT
- List your top three choices for staff positions; explain why you
want these positions, and why you think you are qualified to serve in these
capacities. Please also include any pertinent information not included in your
resume.
3. The mandatory staff selection event will be Saturday, 15 March
2008, Genesee County Building, 1101 Beach St, Flint, MI 48502.
Transportation to and from this event is the responsibility of the cadet.
Activities will start promptly at 0900 and end at approximately 1700. Individuals with extenuating cir*****stances who cannot
be present at the staff selection event are asked to submit (in addition to the
above-named items) a letter to the Commandant of Cadets requesting absence from
the activity. Individuals with an appropriate and compelling reason may be
excused from the event at the discretion of the Commander, and alternate
interview arrangements will be made on an individual basis.
4. Applicants should be prepared for a written test covering
(but not excluded to): drill and ceremonies, customs & courtesies, uniforms,
general CAP and USAF knowledge, and leadership principles that may relate to
the applied for positions(s).
5. Applicants should prepare to demonstrate their skill in
drill and ceremonies; including command presence, voice, and practical
application of drill knowledge as it relates to the staff position.
6. Applicants should prepare for an interview with the
encampment command staff.
No specific preparation is necessary for this component, however please be
ready to discuss your CAP experience to date, explain your suitability to the
position(s) to which you have applied, and respond to hypothetical scenarios.
Please use this opportunity to present yourself in the best possible light.
7. The uniform of the day is short sleeve service dress with ribbons.
Applicants should be prepared for an in ranks uniform inspection. Please
bring warm outerwear for drilling outside.
8. After the deadline has passed, an email confirmation list,
as well as additional info will be distributed.
